Full Professor Vesnica Mlinarević, PhD

Vesnica Mlinarević PhD (maiden name Suhina) is a full professor of educational sciences at the Faculty of Education Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek, Croatia. In 2006 she became research associate, then she has been appointed as a senior research associate in 2012, and in 2017 she became a scientific advisor in social sciences, field pedagogy, branch general pedagogy

After finishing 1st Gymnasium in Osijek, she graduated from the Pedagogical Faculty in Osijek on pre-school education and pedagogy and gained two vocations, pre-school educator and professor of Pedagogy. She received master's degree in 2004 and a PhD degree in 2006 in the area of social sciences, field of pedagogy at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb with the topic Spare time Predictor of Behavioral Disorders in Students. She worked at the Pre-School Education Center in Osijek, Education and Teacher Training Agency as an advisor, as an external associate at the Pedagogical Faculty, and in 2001 she has been employed at the Faculty of Education. She also teaches at Postgraduate (doctoral) university study programme of Pedagogy and Contemporary School Culture at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Osijek, and at the Postgraduate Doctoral Study of Quality in Education at the University of Zadar.

She was a associate of the project "Program of Psychosocial Help for Refugee Children in the Republic of Croatia” in 1998 and worked as an advisor to the Peaceful Reintegration of the Croatian Danube region into the Educational System of the Republic of Croatia in Vukovar and Baranja.

She was a researcher on tree scientific project of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Croatia: "Teaching focused on research and action" (0122003) from 2004 to 2007; “Need for a new position of students in and outside teaching"(245-1221170-1041), from  2007 to 2011; "Curriculum of Social Competences and Relation in School“ (130-1301761-1765), from 2013 to 2015. She was a principal investigator an international IPA project RO-ufos-luna-MI, Improving the Position of Roma Children in Education in Baranja Region and was an associate of K2 Erasmus + project ''Peace-making the education and employment: answers to new challenges and opportunities'. She is an associate on the project of the European Social Fund (UP. run by the University of Zadar under the title Competency Standards of Teachers, Educators, and Mentors, within the Croatian Qualifications

She is the author and co – author of two scientific monographs, four chapters in books, co-editor of five conference proceedings from scientific conferences, author of around 90 scientific and professional papers in the field of pedagogy, and she was a member or president of 16 scientific conferences as introductory lecturer and lecturer.

She has been a mentor to over 100 final and graduate papers and a mentor of 5 doctoral theses at the J. J. Strossmayer University of Osijek and the University of Zagreb, and a member of committees on the defense of doctoral and master's theses and the evaluation and defense of doctoral topics.

She has participated in international scientific conferences in the Republic of Croatia and abroad (Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Italy, Japan, China, Hungary, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Northern Macedonia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Serbia, United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates). Areas of scientific interest are leisure time of children and young people, disorders in student behavior, extracurricular activities, teacher competencies, quality of university teaching, culture and educational institution's leadership, hidden curriculum, and early and pre-school education.

She has been a member of the editorial board of the scientific journal Life and School from 2008 to2019., and since 2019 she is the editor-in-chief. Also, she is on the editorial board of the international journal Évkönyv, Subotica, Serbia. She has reviewed scientific papers in journals, professional and scientific books, proceedings of scientific conferences, scientific projects and university study programs.

She was the head of the dislocated undergraduate pre-school education program in Vukovar from 2003 to 2006, head of the Department of Social Sciences for the academic year 2006/2007, Vice Dean for Professional Development Affairs from 2009 to 2010 and Vice Dean for Teaching from 2010 to 2018 at the Faculty of Education in Osijek. She was the president of the commission for securing and upholding the quality of higher education and gained a certificate of quality assurance in the ISO standards 9001 of higher education institutions. She has been the president of the commission for professional examinations of educators and pedagogues in pre-school institutions for the five Slavonian counties since 2008. She is a member of the University Council of Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek, the president of the Administrative Board of the City and University Library in Osijek, a member of the Croatian Pedagogical Society and a member of Matica Hrvatska.
